The Telecom Standardization Advisory Group will hold its meeting at the ITU headquarter in Geneva in the period from 2 to 9 July 2008.
This meeting is of high significance as it is the last meeting before the WTSA meeting, scheduled to take place in the period from 21 to 30 October 2008. The WTSA meeting is a periodical meeting held every four years to review the strategies and action plans of the sector and to set the work framework and trends for the following four years.
It is expected that the TSAG meeting will address the topics and the agenda of the WTSA. The meeting will also consider the possibility of restructuring the ITU- T Study Groups so as to include more developing countries in these groups.
The TSAG meeting will be preceded by a workshop on Intellectual Property Rights and ICT standards implementation to discuss current issues relating to the inclusion of patented technology in standards and the patent policy approaches to address those issues.
It is worth mentioning in this regard that the Egyptian expert Dr. Sherif Genena- the advisor to the Executive President of the NTRA, was appointed as a vice chairman for ITU-T SG2 and as the chairman for the SG2-RG-ARB.
