The Internet has always been on the top priorities of the ICT strategy in Egypt as the Government of Egypt is totally convinced that this is the platform for the socioeconomic development as well as for innovation and education and better services. Depending on this importance, Egypt has always been active in all Internet international arenas, on the top of which is the Internet Governance Forum.
The IGF is foreseen by Egypt not only as the most significant and tangible outcome of the Tunis summit, which marks the beginning of a new multi-stakeholder process but also as an opportunity for bridging divides between the various parties involved and for bringing the developing countries into the ongoing dialogue.
The forum hosting is rotating among continents. Egypt has always been keen to participate in the forum proceedings. A high-level Egyptian delegation took part in the first two IGF meetings held in Athens and Rio de Janeiro in 2006 and 2007 respectively. His Excellency Dr. Tarek Kamel, the Minister of Communications and Information Technology had the honor to be part of the opening ceremony of the first IGF meeting in Athens.
His Excellency is leading a high- level Egyptian delegation, participating in the proceedings of the third IGF meeting taking place in Hyderabad in the period from 3 to 6 December 2008.
It is also of great pride that His Excellency will announce Egypt's hosting to the fourth IGF meeting in 2009, which again reflects the important and indispensable role played by Egypt in the international arenas and the priority of the Internet issues on the agenda of the Egyptian Government.
