11/22/2006

During the second week of the plenipotentiary conference, Egypt has been re-elected as a member in the ITU Council for the period from 2007 to 2010.

Egypt has won a seat among 13 African seats assigned for Africa. Dr. Ahmad Al Sherbiny, the Head of the National Telecommunications Institute voted on behalf of Egypt to choose members of the ITU council and the Radio Regulations Board.

The second week of the ITU Plenipotentiary Conference witnessed the presentation and the discussion of the different issues related to ICT policies and all the consequential developments that affect our society one way or another.

Egypt submitted some suggestions to be discussed in addition to other suggestions submitted in the name of Egypt and Arab countries, and others submitted in the name of Egypt and the African countries. This again reflects and underscores Egypt’s status on the African and regional levels.

The third and last week of the ITU Plenipotentiary Conference will be devoted for taking decision regarding all issues discussed. Eng. Amr Hashem, the senior advisor to the Minister of Communications and Information Technology, will be the head of the Egyptian delegate during the third and last week of the Conference.
