The eighth annual Global Symposium for Regulators (GSR), is organized by the Telecommunication Development Bureau (BDT) of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) in Thailand from 11 to 13 March 2008. The GSR gathers all regulators from all over the world to exchange expertise and develop a constructive dialogue regarding different issues of interest.
This GSR meeting which is the second, comes as an implementation for the plenipotentiary resolution (Antalya 2006) which considered this forum as an official and main periodical activity among activities of the Telecommunication Development Bureau (BDT) of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).
The GSR meeting this year will for the first time address the implementation of the WTDC-06 and the TDAG-07 recommendations regarding the increasing of the private sector role and its inclusion in all development activities. The 10th of March meetings are hence fully dedicated to the FIRST GLOBAL INUDSTRY LEADERS’ FORUM (GILF).
This constitutes an excellent opportunity for opening channels of communication between the private sector and the regulatory organizations in an attempt to reach common stances between both parties.
It is worth mentioning in this regard that Egypt has played a major role in giving this forum such importance and in setting it among main activities of the ITU. Egypt was also the president of the working Group that was formed as a result of the WTDC-06 recommendations and which focused on means on involving the private sector in the forum.
