The 17th round of Cairo ICT, Egypt’s largest annual technology conference and tradeshow, was held under the slogan “Building Bridges”, from 9 to 12 December 2013. Cairo ICT is considered an important tool that can help in boosting the economy and creating communication channels between Egypt, the Arab region and Africa.
NTRA actively participated in Cairo ICT, in both the Exhibition and the Forum. NTRA's booth in the Exhibition showcased all services presented by NTRA and the booth welcomed many visitors enquiring about our services.
Moreover, speakers from NTRA participated in many Forum sessions, such as 'The Digital Dividend in Egypt', and NTRA's Executive President, Eng. Hesham El Alaily was a speaker in the session “Bridging the Digital Gap” which focused on the importance of the digital economy and the potential of Egypt as it strives to overcome its economic challenges. He was also invited to a round table with ICANN President and CEO, Mr. Fadi Chehade, which was organized by Internet Masr to discuss the concept of Internet governance and to promote the multi-stakeholder governance as the right approach for the Internet-related processes and activities.
He was also a panelist in the session “Opportunities and Regulatory policies”, which included CEOs of the three mobile operators in Egypt and the CEO of Telecom Egypt in addition to representatives from the telecom industry; as well as the session “Egypt as a digital hub”, which stressed on Egypt’s geographical location as an opportunity for Egypt to become a digital hub of the region.
In addition to the Forum sessions, Eng. El Alaily held several meetings with representatives from the civil society, business leaders and top government officials in Egypt and from Africa and the Arab region. Discussions were mainly about the broadband infrastructure, partnerships with private sector, expected growth in the Egyptian ICT sector, issues related to the Internet and the potential role of Egypt as a leading country in the region.
