An NTRA high-rank delegate headed by Dr. Amr Badawi, the Executive Manager, took part in the ITU Telecom World in Hong Kong in the period from the 4th to the 8th December 2006.
The ITU Telecom World is an ITU event held every three years, it brings the world's leading ICT companies, decision-makers, organizations and governments together. The event features a major Exhibition, a high-level Forum and numerous opportunities for meeting, discussing, networking and getting business done.
The event comprised the following:
First: the exhibition; more than 600 companies from almost 40 countries all over the world showed their products and services
Second: the forum; more than 600 CEOs and key representatives of Telecom companies, 150 governmental representatives and a number of ambassadors and heads of regulatory bodies from all the over the world meet to discuss the ICT future, the forum has the name of “Living the Digital World”, it is divided into three axes:
- Digital Life style: this axis handled the present and future modes of life and adaptation to the ICT revolution and the impact of the ICT progress taking pale worldwide.
- Digital Ecosystems: this axis focuses on the service providers and the means of developing successful business models that achieve the targets of the private sector and meanwhile considers the social and developmental aspects.
- Digital Society: this axis unveils the challenges that face all stakeholders so as to maintain a transparent regulatory environment and build a comprehensive information society.
On the margin of the exhibition, a Youth Forum was held, where students from all over the world were invited to take part in a writing competition to write an article on the ICT developments. Youth forum discussion will focus on technology, policies and regulation. His Excellency, Dr. Tarek Kamel, the CIT minister, will make a speech before the youth forum.
Telecommunication Development Symposium- TDS was also be held on the margin of the exhibition and focused this year on the NGN and the ICT promotion with the aim of bridging the digital divide.
Prior to the forum, an executive-level training for regulators and policy makers was held on the 2nd and 3rd of December. The training will be organized by the ITU and the Hong Kong Office of Telecom Authority OFTA. The training will be directed only to executive presidents and heads of regulators. An ICT regulation Toolkit, implemented by the ITU in collaboration with the infodev will be the focus of the training.
