NTRA's participation in the activities of the ITU is one of the most important mandates undertaken by its experts as they represent Egypt in the Union's meeting in order to present the Egyptian viewpoint on the regulation of frequency applications and participation in its various sectors' activities in the developing countries. The experts are currently actively involved in many working parties and study groups that tackle different issues in this regard.
Some NTRA's specialized experts and engineers participated in a workshop held at the Faculty of Engineering, Cairo University on the best means for facilitating the participation of universities in ITU activities. It was held on Thursday 4 May and was organized by the Telecom Group at the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology (ASRT), headed by Prof. Hadia El Hennawy. Dr. Fadel Degham, Executive Director of NTRA's Research and Development Department, represented NTRA in the workshop. Dr. Sherif Genena presented an overview of ITU's role and academia's participation in its activities. In addition, Dr. Fadhel Degham discussed issues related to 5G technology and the development of its standardization activities. At the end of the meeting, a number of recommendations were submitted, mainly, NTRA's introduction of a mechanism in order to benefit from academia's expertise in strengthening the Egyptian contributions in ITU events.
