NTRA Delegation Visited Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (SKMM/MCMC)
11/30/2014

Within the framework of our cooperation with the Far East nations and optimization of our benefits from their unique and unparalleled expertise in ICT field, a delegation from the National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA) visited its counterpart in Malaysia; the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (SKMM/MCMC) in Kuala Lumpur in October 2014.

This visit aimed to get introduced to the Malaysian expertise in the field of telecom services users' rights  protection in general and child online protection in particular, in addition to NGOs' role in augmenting the users' awareness and protecting  them and the exchange of expertise and viewpoints in this area. Taking this societal scope into consideration,  NTRA' s delegation included Eng. Aly Anis, Executive Director of the Societal Interaction Department and Mr. Sameh Saed, Director of Consumers' Rights Protection Department.

As the NTRA pays special attention to and prioritizes the protection of telecom users' rights that constitutes one of the main pivots of NTRA's scope of work, the delegation met the teams of Communications and Multimedia Content Forum of Malaysia (CMCF)  and the Communications & Multimedia Consumer Forum of Malaysia (CFM). The first Forum receives and resolves complaints from Malaysians citizens about the telecom services providers and quality of service; whereas the second Forum receives citizens' complaints about the provided content (whether text, audio or video), exerting all efforts to resolve them. It is worth mentioning in this respect that Malaysia has applied Convergence as SKMM/MCMC regulates and develops telecom services, the audiovisual media services and postal and energy services. In addition, it monitors the operators and service provider's implementation and abidance by all laws.

In fact, it was a great opportunity for the delegation to visit some of the civil institutions that collaborate with SKMM / MCMC in raising the telecom users' awareness of their rights and protecting them as they launch initiatives in this respect. All these strenuous efforts eventually benefit the users and directly serve their interests.
