The Arab High-level Forum on the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) and 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development will be held in the period from May 8 to 12, in Beirut, Lebanon. This event will be organized by the Economic Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), in partnership with the Lebanese Ministry of Telecommunications, and in collaboration with OGERO Telecom. The Forum will include an Experts Meeting that will be convened in the period from 8 May to 11 May and a Conference on May 10-12.
The event brings together concerned parties and various stakeholders in the Information Society, Digital Economy and Internet Governance in the Arab region with the aim of presenting, reviewing and discussing the linkages between WSIS Action Lines and the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda. Emphasis will be placed on the contribution of digital economies and smart communities can speed up the implementation of WSIS action lines, and themes and contribute to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the Arab region. The Forum is expected to issue a declaration on the linkages between WSIS and 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Participants in the Forum include policy makers and decision-makers in the field of information society development, and the development of the digital economy and achievement of SDGs in the Arab region. Moreover, this event will be attended by policy experts on the Internet, applications and services, the use of digital technologies in addition to representatives from the public and private sectors, NGOs and international and regional organizations.
