The World Telecommunication Development Conference (WTDC-17) convenes in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in the period from 9 to 20 October 2017 as it is organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), through its Telecommunication Development Bureau (BDT). The theme of this year's event is "ICT for Sustainable Development Goals" - ICT④SDGss".

This conference is regarded as one of the major ITU conferences and the main forum of the ITU Development Sector, which is concerned with the interests of developing countries, as it reviews and discusses the decisions taken by the executives and officials of the sector and the issuance of new decisions conforming to the technological developments in the ICT field. Moreover, many regional initiatives will be taken and enlisted in the agenda of ITU-R in the next period as some developmental projects will be launched on the sidelines of the event, in addition to the strategies and objectives that will be determined for the development of communications and information technology.

NTRA has submitted 13 Egyptian working papers, namely proposals for the amendment to new resolutions and decisions during the conference which were included in the joint Arab and African proposals. These proposals pivot around issues of compatibility and interoperability.
The expected outcomes of WTDC-17 include a declaration reinforcing the political support for the mission and strategic objectives of the ITU Telecommunication Development Sector (ITU-D); an ITU-D contribution to the ITU Strategic Plan for 2020-2023; and an ITU-D Action Plan comprising regional initiatives, new and revised resolutions and recommendations to support the fulfilment of the Sector’s objectives, and new and revised Questions to be studied by ITU-D study groups.
