NTRA's Board of Directors chaired by H.E. Eng. Atef Helmy, Minister of Communications and Information Technology. The BoD member discussed several issues related to telecom sector development and the future vision thereof the sector. In fact, they issued several resolutions and decisions, on top of which came the Unified Telecom license system.
Eng. Hisham El Alaily, NTRA's Executive President, has stated that the NTRA's BoD decided the following:
- The adoption of the Unified license system as an optimal regulatory solution will pave the way for the attainment of the growth and the balance required for the telecom market in Egypt owing to the urgent and pressing need for a strong infrastructure that enables the incumbent operators to provide added services to all the sectors operating in the State and the Egyptian citizens.
- All the pending issues that were broached by the incumbent operators regarding the activation of the unified license system have been decided and settled. In other words, the issue and dispute that was raised concerning the international interconnection between Etisalat Misr and Telecom Egypt has been resolved with respect to the upcoming period. As for the dispute that was raised concerning the previous years, it is should be noted that the NTRA exerted all efforts to resolve this issue and the BoD has decided to refer it to the two companies to decide it, on their own, as they should reach a compromise that does not hinder the commencement of the unified license system implementation.
- NTRA has decided to refer the details of the unified license system to the Cabinet's Economic Committee that, in its turn, will submit it to the Cabinet for ratification final approval. A press conference will be held for the discussion and announcement of this topic after its ratification.
At the end of the meeting, H.E. the Minister extended his thanks to all the members of NTRA's BoD, the Executive Committee and NTRA's staff for their professionalism and the transparency that prevailed in the one-year drafting and setup process of the Unified License. In addition, the members of NTRA's BoD expressed their thanks to all the telecom operators and companies for their fruitful cooperation during the previous period and their keenness to resolve all the pending issues and reach a clear vision for the growth of telecom sector.
