The Commencement of the Public Phase of the Domain Names Registration with Arabic letters '.masr'

The commencement of the public phase (that is, 3rd and final phase) of the Domain Names Registration with Arabic letters under the international Top-Level Domain (TLD)  '.masr' will be launched tomorrow, Wednesday, January 9, 2013, starting @ 10am.

In this phase,  domain names registration will be opened to any applicant who wishes that without any prerequisites. This will take place after the end of the first and second phases that required the entities and companies to prove their relationship with the Domain Name they requested by providing the needed official papers. Thus those who would register their domain names would be able to complete the entire registration process online through the official websites of the Licensees according to the precedence of application.

Dr. Amr Badawi, NTRA's Executive President, has pointed out that the registration of  domain names with Arabic letters under the international Top-Level Domain (TLD)  '.masr' is considered an important step that establishes and consolidates the Egyptian identity and an effective means to provide access to local content from any country in the world. This will eventually  deploy the Arab culture and sustain the Arabic language by increasing the Arabic content on the Internet. In addition, this will pave the way for large investments and new job opportunities  for companies and individuals alike.

It is worth mentioning that NTRA had awarded a license to three companies : Vodafone Data, TE Data, and LINKdotNET, in order to provide the service of registration of  the domain names with Arabic letters under the international Top-Level Domain (TLD)  '.masr' to all applicants (whether they are individuals, private or public companies, government or civil society. Furthermore, the Supreme Council of Universities (SCU) will be granted a special license that allows it to register the domain names with Arabic letters only for the governmental, educational and academic agencies.
