 •  OIC-CERT Regional Workshop
Under the auspices of HE Dr Tarek Kamel, the Minister of Communications and Information Technology, the proceedings of the OIC-CERT (The Organization of the Islamic Conference-Computer Emergency Response Team) Regional Workshop commenced with the participation of nine countries. The Workshop is being held at Intercontinental Semiramis, on 8 and 9 June 2010.
 •  The Award of Licenses for the Construction, Possession & Leasing Of Wireless Communication towers
The National Telecommunication Regulatory Authority (NTRA) has announced the award of licenses for the construction and possession of the infrastructure of sites or towers as installations or antennae (other than telecom equipment) for leasing it as per the coverage areas required for operation to more than one operator (and service provider of mobile and wireless services).  •  The New Regulation of the Registration of Consumers’ Personal Data in Selling and Activating Mobile Lines
There has been lately fierce competition among the three mobile Operators in Egypt in selling mobile lines at competitive prices. As a result, some market agents and distributors have failed to sell mobile lines without obtaining users’ personal data or selling them with incorrect data. Hence, a number of mobile lines that lacked personal data were registered in mobile Operators’ databases.
 •  Launching The New Mobile Numbers With (015) Code
The National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA) has addressed the three mobile Operators to commence selling the new mobile lines in markets with the new code (015) and 11 digits (for new lines only) starting from Thursday June 10th, 2010. Mobinil's code will be (0150), Vodafone's code will be (0151) and Etisalat's code will be (0152). This comes in implementation of the transitional period of the new numbering plan that was previously announced by the NTRA.
 •  NTRA Awarded LinkOne and TeleTech Consortia Licenses To Construct & Operate Access Networks In Closed Compounds
The Board of Directors of the National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA), chaired by Dr. Tarek Kamel, Minister of Communications and Information Technology, decided to award LinkOne and TeleTech consortia two licenses for the construction and operation of Access Telecommunications Networks in Closed Compounds.

 •  The New MNP Terms & Condition
The National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA) has announced the issuance of the new terms and conditions of Mobil Number Portability (MNP) among the 3 mobile operators. These new terms and conditions will be implemented starting next week and aim to eliminate the obstacles hindering the subscribers’ numbers portability and facilitate MNP procedures. This will eventually boost competition among operators and ameliorate the services.
 •  A Cooperation Protocol Signed between
The National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (NTRA) and the Egyptian Competition Authority (ECA) signed a cooperation Protocol between them. In fact, this Protocol is considered an expression of both parties’ interest in the welfare of both the market and the consumer. It is a declaration of joint collaboration and coordination between them in order to boost the freedom of competition in the telecom sector and exchange of information and expertise between them. The protocol was signed by Dr. Amr Badawi, the NTRA’s Executive President and Dr. Sameh El-Torgoman, Chairman of the Board of Directors of ECA.

The Commencement of Activation of the Increase In the Mobile Numbers Length Starting from 6/10/2011 this New Scheme will Take Place With Easiness Subscribers will not be Affected As The Old Mobile Numbers Will Remain Activated and Used (with the New Numbers) for an Adequate Period of Time The Subscribers’ Contact Lists Saved on their Mobile Sets Will Not be Affected
 •  15th Arab Spectrum Management Group (ASMG) Meeting
The National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA) is hosting 15th meeting of the Arab Spectrum Management Group (ASMG) in Sharm El-Sheikh in the period from 1 to 5 October 2011. The 15th meeting is attended by 13 Arab countries, 7 international telecom organizations and some leading Arab and international telecom companies.
