 24 February 2025

The National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (NTRA) continues to advance its efforts to enhance digital awareness through its ongoing outreach campaign under the slogan “Know Your Rights, Your Services, and Protect Your Device and Data.” As part of this initiative, NTRA organized—for the first time in Assiut—a series of informative awareness sessions at the Assiut Governorate headquarters and Assiut University.

The sessions focused on NTRA’s vital role in society, its initiatives to provide digital services that facilitate citizens’ daily lives, as well as essential topics such as cybersecurity risks, information security, and how to secure mobile phones. The efforts received strong praise and support from local officials, including Assiut Governor and the President of Assiut University, Dr. Ahmed El-Menshawy—reflecting the growing recognition of the importance of cybersecurity and digital literacy within the community.

The events witnessed high-level participation, including the presence of Major General Hesham Abu El-Nasr, Governor of Assiut; Eng. Mohamed Ibrahim, Senior Head of Community Engagement at NTRA; Major General Mohamed Al-Saghlabi, Executive Director of Media; as well as a number of officials, experts, and a large audience of citizens and representatives from various governmental bodies. NTRA experts received a warm and highly appreciative welcome from the Assiut Governorate, underscoring the strong local commitment to cybersecurity and digital transformation.

The awareness sessions covered several key pillars aimed at empowering citizens digitally, including:

  • User rights in the telecommunications sector: Participants were introduced to their rights as telecom service users, such as the right to high-quality services, the right to file complaints, and the right to privacy, among other legally guaranteed rights.

  • Key digital services: The sessions highlighted important digital services provided or supervised by NTRA, such as:

    • “Maarefa” Platform: A national Arabic digital content platform offering a wide variety of educational and informational resources.

    • E-wallet services: Demonstrations were provided on how to use e-wallets safely and their benefits in enabling secure payments and financial transactions.

  • NTRA’s regulatory role: Emphasis was placed on NTRA’s responsibilities in regulating the telecommunications sector, improving service quality, protecting user rights, enhancing cybersecurity, and promoting digital awareness.

  • Major national initiatives: The sessions also highlighted NTRA’s key initiatives, including the “Digital Egypt” initiative aimed at transforming Egypt into an integrated digital society.

During the sessions, participants received essential tips and guidance on how to mitigate cybersecurity threats and protect their mobile devices from hacking, ensuring safe use of digital applications and services.

This initiative forms part of NTRA’s broader efforts to promote nationwide digital awareness through the outreach caravan “Know Your Rights, Your Services, and Protect Your Device and Data.” The campaign aims to empower citizens to safeguard their personal data and devices against potential cyber threats while educating them about their digital rights and how to access the best available digital services.
