- NTRA launched a bundle of services including 5G, Internet of Things for vehicles, Wi-Fi Calling, and eSIM.

Dr. Amr Talaat, Minister of Communications and Information Technology, held a meeting with members of Telecommunications Industry Committee of the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Egypt (NTRA), within the framework of the Committee’s new formation which encompasses a distinguished group of leaders and top experts in ICT sector. The meeting discussed the strategic pillars for developing telecom industry in Egypt and the challenges it may face in the coming period, while reviewing the efforts undertaken by the State, through NTRA and Industry Committee, to support telecom sector and reinforce its capabilities, in line with Egypt’s digital strategy and the ongoing efforts to promote a knowledge-based economy.
During the meeting, Dr. Amr Talaat gave a speech affirming that ICT sector witnessed an unprecedented qualitative leap in recent years, and transformed into a productive service sector that effectively contributes to economic growth and the achievement of sustainable development. He explained that the sector recorded the highest growth rates nationwide for the seventh year in a row, ranging between 14% and 16%, with a contribution to the gross domestic product (GDP) rising to around 6%.
Meanwhile, Dr. Amr Talaat referred to the Global Offshoring Summit where agreements were signed with 55 international and local companies to expand this field in Egypt, contributing to the creation of 75,000 new job opportunities. This clearly reflects the great attention given by the State to the outsourcing industry, a commitment that was embodied in the meeting of His excellency the President of Egypt with the leaders and executives of the companies taking part in the summit.
He also added that digital exports increased by 124% over seven years, reaching 7.4 billion US dollars, while outsourcing exports also doubled within three years, recording 4.8 billion US dollars in 2025. He further noted that Egypt advanced 47 places in 2025 World Bank GovTech Maturity Index, ranking 22nd globally after previously being at the 69th position, which actually strengthens Egypt’s position among leading countries in digital government within Tier (A). He also emphasized the State’s commitment to the ongoing development in cybersecurity, through signing the United Nations Convention against Cybercrime, and announcing cooperation to establish the Egyptian African Center for the Prevention and Combat of Cybercrime, in partnership with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC.)
Moreover, Dr. Amr Talaat showcased the State’s efforts in localizing the electronics industry, explaining that Egypt succeeded in polarizing 15 major global mobile phone-manufacturing brands, with a local component exceeding 40%. He added that more than 10 million mobile devices were produced during the current year, compared to 3.3 million devices last year, stressing that the implementation of mobile phone governance system is primarily aiming at protecting and supporting local manufacturing. He also reviewed NTRA’s role alongside the Telecommunications Industry Committee in launching a bundle of services, most notably 5G, the Internet of Things (IoT) for vehicles, Wi-Fi Calling to improve call quality inside buildings, as well as the embedded SIM (eSIM) service, which provides users with greater flexibility in managing their phone lines.
At the meeting’s end, the Telecommunications Industry Committee of NTRA issued a number of important recommendations to support the national industry. These recommendations emphasized the importance of opening new horizons for the development of telecom sector and addressing challenges related to local manufacturing, while highlighting the need to explore opportunities for developing data centers and cloud computing services. They also aimed at expanding local production of telecommunications devices, and establishing effective mechanisms to support and uphold domestic products. Meanwhile, Dr. Amr Talaat expressed, by the end of the meeting, his confidence in the pivotal role undertaken by Telecommunications Industry Committee in its new formation, noting that it represents a fundamental pillar for strengthening coordination among the stakeholders of telecom ecosystem. This, he stressed, reflects the State’s commitment to unifying efforts and deepening joint work to support and advance the national telecom industry.
