The National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (NTRA) has announced the success of its recent policies in making the latest mobile phone releases available in the Egyptian market at the same time as their global launch. This achievement comes as a result of creating a regulatory environment that encourages investment, enabling agents of major international telecom device brands to expand their investments and import the newest devices to the local market during the first global release wave—for the first time ever—such as the new iPhone 17 series. Previously, Egyptian users experienced significant delays in accessing these releases, sometimes exceeding two months after their global launch.
This progress is attributed to several measures implemented during the current year, including simplifying type-approval procedures, accelerating the release of shipments, and preventing smuggling through the use of advanced technological tools. These steps have opened the door for local manufacturing and renewed the interest of major brand agents in the Egyptian market. As a result, leading brands are now competing to manufacture their devices locally, and agents have regained confidence in importing the latest releases simultaneously with their global availability—reinforcing the importance of the Egyptian market as one of the world’s leading markets.
NTRA remains committed to taking all necessary measures to ensure the safe and fair use of mobile phones in the Egyptian market, support local manufacturing, and regulate the importation and circulation of mobile devices through accurate governance and oversight mechanisms. The authority also works to prevent the entry of non-approved or non-compliant devices, ensuring that users receive original, certified, and safe devices—ultimately improving the quality of services provided to consumers.
