NTRA grants new licenses for providing “IoT” services for vehicles in Egypt to Mercedes-Benz Egypt S.A.E.

The National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Egypt (NTRA) signed agreements to grant new licenses for providing “IoT” services for vehicles in Egypt to Mercedes-Benz Egypt S.A.E. The signing comes within “Digital Egypt” strategy, which aims to localize the latest global technologies and deliver more advanced and secure services to Egyptian users. It also adds to NTRA’s vision of opening new investment horizons in the field of “IoT” services.

The agreement was signed by Engineer/ Mohamed Shamroukh, NTRA’s Executive President, and Ms./ Stephanie Volz, CEO and Managing Director of Mercedes-Benz Egypt, in the presence of several officials from NTRA and representatives of Mercedes-Benz Egypt.

On the sidelines of the signing, Engineer/ Mohamed Shamroukh, NTRA’s Executive President, stated that granting the new licenses to Mercedes-Benz Egypt represents an important step in supporting digital transformation and upholding the smart vehicle ecosystem in Egypt’s market, in line with the objectives of the Digital Egypt strategy. He further explained that enabling “IoT” services for vehicles will contribute to raising the levels of safety and security on roads, improving the user experience, and enhancing the efficiency of vehicle management and operation.

Engineer/ Mohamed Shamroukh also emphasized NTRA’s commitment to establishing clear regulatory frameworks that ensure the safe operation of these services, with full adherence to data protection and privacy standards. He pointed out that the granting of licenses is carried out according to precise technical and regulatory metrics that guarantee service quality and sustainability. He added that NTRA continues to pave way for more companies and global brands to benefit from Egypt’s advanced digital infrastructure, thereby reinforcing market competitiveness and keeping pace with global developments in the ICT field.

Furthermore, “IoT” for vehicles enables drivers to utilize navigation systems, tracking, and emergency assistance tools in a safe and organized manner, while ensuring the protection of users’ data and privacy. It’s worth noting that NTRA had previously allowed seven global smart vehicle manufacturers to operate “IoT” for vehicles in Egypt.
