The National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Egypt (NTRA) announced the reactivation of “My Numbers” service on My NTRA application, which allows users to inquire about mobile numbers registered under their name. This came after a temporary technical solution was implemented to restore the service, pending the completion of ongoing technical and regulatory updates. The updates will include enabling biometric verification to ensure that the inquiring person is the actual holder of the National ID card, and not someone else using one of the lines registered under their name.
NTRA explained that the temporary solution allows users to utilize “My Numbers” service during the ongoing update-process. When an inquiry is made, all mobile lines registered under the user’s name appear, with certain digits in the middle of each number concealed to enhance privacy protection and reduces the risk of data misuse. The ongoing update aims to raise levels of security and protection, and to strengthen user identity verification measures, ensuring the privacy of citizens and safeguarding their personal data. NTRA also confirmed that it continues to work on completing the final updates to the service, in line with the highest standards of information security and personal data protection.
It is worth noting that NTRA had previously suspended “My Numbers” on a temporary basis, in order to carry out certain regulatory and technical updates aimed at strengthening the protection of citizens’ privacy and enhancing the security level of the service.
