 24 April 2019

Within the framework of the efforts to monitor cyber-attacks and keep abreast of relevant technological developments, the NTRA, represented in the Egyptian Computer Emergency Readiness Team (EG-CERT) participates in the annual conference of the Organization of The Islamic Cooperation – Computer Emergency Response Teams (OIC-CERT) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in the period from 22 to 24 April 2019.

The conference aims to enable multilateral participation in the exchange of regional information and communications to promote security at the regional level and to enhance stability and economic development. EG-CERT’s partaking in the conference is meant to strengthen relations with international cybersecurity organizations and entities.

The conference comprises several regional presentations and is considered an opportunity for regional delegations to exchange views and lessons learnt from their national cybersecurity strategies and ICT initiatives. Moreover, the conference will also endorse cooperation between relevant organizations and entities that gather to meet the functioning and operational requirements of the sector and to overcome the crisis management challenges or those related to relief missions sent upon the occurrence of disasters. On the sidelines of the conference, a workshop will be held to discuss the latest advancements in the field of cyber-attacks on computer networks. Ever since 2012, EG-CERT has been providing support to various bodies across the ICT, banking and government sectors to help them address cybersecurity threats, including denial-of-service attacks (DoS attacks).

The Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC-CERT) is one of the prominent international organizations concerned with cyber-attacks. Egypt is a key member of the Steering Committee and plays a vital role in the management of the Organization, which includes 24 member states, not to mention the fact that Egypt is a member of the Conference Organizing Committee.
