Eng. Mohamed Shamroukh, CEO of NTRA
-
Eng. Mohamed Nasr El-Din, Managing Director & CEO of Telecom Egypt

The Wi-Fi Calling service allows users to make high-quality voice calls via a Wi-Fi network in locations where mobile network coverage is weak, such as high-rise buildings, residential and commercial towers. The service uses the same mobile plan and pricing without additional charges and can be activated through mobile phone settings.
Dr. Amr Talaat highlighted that the launch is the result of a year-long collaborative effort between NTRA and the four mobile operators to design a technical solution and build a system that ensures high-quality coverage, enabling citizens to make and receive mobile calls through fixed Internet networks efficiently, especially in indoor or hard-to-cover areas.
He also noted that more than 3,000 mobile towers were built across Egypt in 2024 as part of a national plan to ensure comprehensive coverage. By mid-2025, all major highways and all villages under the “Hayat Karima” initiative will have full mobile coverage. Dr. Talaat affirmed continued cooperation with mobile operators to provide faster and more efficient services nationwide.
Eng. Mohamed Shamroukh, CEO of NTRA, added that Wi-Fi Calling will significantly enhance service quality, particularly in indoor areas and homes with weak mobile coverage, aligning Egypt with the latest global telecom technologies. This initiative also strengthens competition among operators and benefits end-users by improving the overall telecom experience.
NTRA has recently introduced several new technologies in the Egyptian telecom market, including 5G services and eSIM, alongside regulatory mechanisms to improve mobile service quality by imposing double penalties on operators that fail to meet quality standards, ensuring better coverage and service performance.
