 4 March 2021

With the participation of more than 600 experts and specialists from member countries, industry community as well as telecommunication regulatory authorities and UN entities, Egypt, represented by the National Telecommunication Regulatory Authority “NTRA”, participated in the 37th 5D-work team meeting virtually held by ITU Radiocommunication Sector via video conference between March 1st to 12th, 2021. 5D work team is the ITU team concerned with all frequential spectrum regulatory-related issues of the International Mobile Telecommunication (IMT) at the international level.

The Egyptian team participated in this meeting to collaborate, contribute and work to designing the international regulatory frame of mobile schemes, with a purpose to develop the service quality criteria, reinforce the usage of frequential spectrum resources and serve the domestic market growth. Furthermore, this participation comes in line with the progress achieved by the state’s government in the implementation of digital transformation projects, to support the pre-planned growth strategies in such a field.    The meeting undertook topics of preparing Radiocommunication Sector regulatory documents and IMT frequential spectrum benchmarks. It also discussed the preparation and upgrading of 5D scheme-benchmarks, as well as the preparation of the upcoming World Radiocommunication Conference WRC-23, which is expected to provide an extra frequential spectrum for mobile phone schemes within many new frequential ranges.
