 29 September 2022

The delegate holds bilateral meetings with presidents and representatives of telecom authorities in Romania, Brazil, Uganda, Kuwait and Zimbabwe.

A delegate from the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Egypt (NTRA) headed by Eng. Hossam El-Gamal, the Executive President of NTRA, took part in ITU Plenipotentiary Conference ITUPP 2022 held in Bucharest, Romania, from September 26 to October 14, 2022, with 182 countries participating.

NTRA’s participation aimed to exchange expertise and reinforce international cooperation with telecom regulatory authorities, to enhance Egypt’s telecom market and services provided. By taking part in ITUPP, NTRA also sought to face the emerging regulatory challenges and support Egypt’s re-election to ITU board membership, represented by Dr. El-Sayed Azouz.

On the sidelines of the Conference, NTRA delegate, headed by Eng. Hossam El-Gamal, held bilateral meetings with the presidents as well as representatives of telecom authorities in Romania, Brazil, Uganda, Kuwait and Zimbabwe to discuss mutual cooperation, coordinate a number of technical topics with regard to telecom regulation, and exchange expertise in developing regulatory policies and strategies. Best practices to confront the emerging regulatory challenges in telecom market were also tackled during such meetings. Furthermore, Eng. Hossam asserted, during his welcoming speech to the delegates taking part in ITUPP, the leading role played by Egypt in discussing significant issues such as digital transformation and cybersecurity, as well as in bridging the digital divide. He also highlighted that the major conferences and meetings held in Egypt, like WRC-2019 in Sharm El-Sheikh, and the upcoming GSR-2023, reflects the high confidence expressed by the international community in Egypt’s capacity to host such important events and also comes in line with the State’s vision to make Egypt a crossroads for exchanging regional as well as international expertise.    On the other hand, A Memorandum of Understanding was signed by and between Eng. Hossam El-Gamal and Mr. Vlad Stefan Stoica, President of the National Authority for Administration and Regulations in Communications, Romania (ANCOM). The MoU entailed building human capacities in digital transformation and came in line of reinforcing international cooperation between the Arab Republic of Egypt and the Republic of Romania; especially in terms of telecom regulation. It also upholds the State’s policy to foster digital transformation as well as enhance relevant services. It also reinforces competition to polarize investments in Egypt’s telecom market.
