The National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA) partakes in Internet Governance Forum (IGF-2021)
 9 December 2021

Egypt, represented by the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (NTRA), participates in the 16th annual meeting of UN Internet Governance Forum (IGF 2021). The meeting is hosted by the Government of Poland in Katowice, on 6-10 December, 2021, under the overarching theme “Internet United”. The programme of IGF 2021 is built around six focus areas:

  • Economic and social inclusion and human rights
  • Universal access and meaningful connectivity
  • Emerging regulation: market structure, content, data and consumer ‎rights and protection
  • ‎Environmental sustainability and climate change
  • Inclusive Internet governance ecosystems and digital cooperation.‎
  • ‎Trust, security, stability.‎

NTRA is a member in the IGF Multistakeholder Advisory Group (MAG), which is established to assist the UN Secretary-General in convening the annual IGF Meeting by preparing the programme and schedule. During IGF 2021, NTRA participates in several proceedings and workshops, presenting Egypt’s efforts to improve telecom infrastructure, as well as expanding telecom services coverage in rural areas, and providing universal internet connectivity for all user segments.

Worth noting that Egypt has contributed to the establishment of the IGF, since the World Summit on the Information Society Forum (WSIS) in Tunisia; and was the host of the Fourth IGF, in Sharm El-Sheikh, in 2009, held under the theme: “Internet Governance – Creating Opportunities for All”.

NTRA will be equally participating in the annual meeting of the Arab Internet Governance Forum, organized back-to-back next week under the joint umbrella of the League of Arab States (LAS) and the UN Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA). The Arab IGF was founded in 2012 and its Secretariat is hosted in Egypt.
