The NTRA Launches Its Unified Code *155# To Enable Users to Control Entertainment Services
 31 December 2020

The National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA) has launched its new service, the toll-free short code *155# for citizens to inquire about or cancel their subscription to value-added services (VASs). This includes the entertainment services provided by mobile operators for a daily or monthly subscription, such as the promotional contests or the news and sports services, or electronic games, in addition to any other entertainment services.

The NTRA has taken this measure after monitoring users’ complaints related to this type of services. The users’ complaints are about several elements, including, users’ subscription to services without obtaining their consent, and service cost increase. All this led the NTRA to launch this new service, that is, the unified toll-free short code that could be used by any user of the mobile services, without charge, to inquire about the entertainment services he/she has subscribed to, if any, and cancel subscription thereto, without need to search for codes or service cancelation means for every service separately.

It should be noted that the NTRA’s decision was issued in line with its earnest keenness to protect the rights of the users of telecom services, fulfill their needs, and respond to their complaints, enabling them to select the most appropriate services and their providers in all transparency, and facilitating for them all their dealings.
