Riyadh Hosts The Meetings of The Arab Committee for ICT and ATICM

The Saudi capital, Riyadh, hosted the meetings of the Arab Permanent Committee for ICT and the Arab Telecommunications and Information Council of Ministers (ATICM) in the period from 14 December to 18 December 2019. The meetings tackled several significant items, most importantly the following:

  • The outputs of the Council’s working groups;
  • Internet governance and the development of telecom services in the Arab region;
  • Cybersecurity issues and affairs;

In addition to other significant topics.
Furthermore, the Arab Ministers of Communications and Information Technology discussed the best means to support and boost the communications sector in the State of Palestine. The meetings witnessed the Ministers’ announcement of Riyadh as the “Arab Digital Capital” for the year 2020, as Cairo will be the Digital Capital of the Arab region in 2021. Moreover, the Ministers has agreed to issue Riyadh Declaration, which details an Arab vision for the digital future of the Arab region.
Additionally, the Ministers extended thanks to Egypt for hosting the activities of the World Radiocommunication Conference (WRC-19), highlighting that it was a clear message to the world about the development of the organizational and technical capacities of highly-skilled cadres and experts of Egypt and the Arab world. The Ministers also adopted the Egyptian proposal for forming an Arab Artificial Intelligence (AI) team to be chaired by Egypt, which came as part of an Egyptian strategy that aims to develop digital potentials in Egypt and the Arab region.
